made in queens

made in queens is a short film about an underground movement in queens where a small crew of trinidadian teenagers pimp out their bmx bikes with crazy sound systems. not only is the unearthing and documenting of this practice amazing, the packaging (which includes a sticker and poster) is extremely bad ass.

most likely an inferior product. nice ad.

green genius

i was charged with creating a mark for a new biodegradable bag company. it had to be green and smart. i wanted to do something different. something that did not fall into the generic green branding that is beginning to sweep through our store shelves. an abstract leaf, patch of grass, earth or tree was not the goal. so i took the tree you might expect to see and strapped it to this guy’s dome. i am also designing the packaging for the entire line of bags and will post them once they are completed.

in working on this project, i have been exposed to just how important the issue of the trash we leave behind is to the planet. the realities of us starting to think about how we exist and the footprint we leave is of the utmost importance. the fact that the trash bags we’ve used for years NEVER biodegrade, is staggering. therefore, they are sitting in landfills and contributing to the giant mass of plastic floating in the pacific ocean. i don’t want to preach, but every little bit helps. ok, im done now.

scott hansen for obama

the obama campaign has commissioned many artists to create posters for the cause, most famously shepard fairey’s “hope”. i found this piece by san francisco based artist scott hansen quite beautiful and inspiring. i tried to pick one up, but they sold out quickly and are now on ebay for much more than they were originally sold for.

looking at this as we are in the midst of the democratic convention has really gotten my head spinning with the party’s current division fueled by the hillary factor. it’s hard for me to wrap my head around the thinking that if you cannot vote for hillary clinton, you must abandon the party that was once supported to either lay dormant during election time or vote for another side. this viewpoint feels extremely selfish to me. to think that you’d rather stand by your guns which are now lacking any ammunition to prove a point that ignores the bigger picture is ridiculous. i hope to god we can all unite so together very soon and change the unfortunate direction the last eight years has taken us in. i just hope we do not come together too late. the time is now.

the bird machine

jay ryan and bird machine create beautiful and hilarious illustration/prints. some of the best in my mind. i was lucky enough to pick up a couple of these beauties at a craft/art fair in mccarren park in williamsburg, bk a couple years ago before i ever heard of these guys. another thing i love about them is that they sell the prints for a reasonable price (usually around 20 bills) i bought 2 posters for bands that i have never listened to. is that wrong?
